I was born in Chicago Lincoln Park Zoo on Valentine's Day in 1987.

I came to Dickerson Park Zoo in September 1988.

I am by far the tallest Baringo giraffe at Dickerson Park Zoo.

Did you know a male giraffe can weigh more than a ton?  Ask your teacher how much a ton is?

My momma is Cheka.  My daddy is Stretch.  That makes Jumbe my half brother.  Do you have a little brother? It also makes Zoe my half sister too.

I will be staying at Dickerson Park Zoo, I won't be leaving like Jumbe will be.

Sometimes Jumbe's mom baby sits me and sometimes my mom baby sits him.  Giraffes do that in the wild.  While the herd, (that is what a giraffe family is called) goes off to feed for the day, one of the momma giraffes stays and baby sits all the baby giraffes.  The giraffe moms are called cows.  The cows in a heard take turns baby sitting.

I was born in the San Diego Wild Animal Park on January 12, 1993.

While living at Dickerson Park Zoo I have have 3 babies.  One in 1999, one in 2001 and my youngest, Acacia was born October 9, 2002.  

When you visit me, you will see that I have an injured leg.  Don't worry, it is okay. It happened when I was transported to DPZ.  They have done surgeries on it and have taken really good care of my leg. Soon there will be a link posted here you can read all about what a wonderful job my keepers have done caring for my leg.

Cheka is going to have another baby in May 2004!!!!

While at Dickerson Park Zoo I have had 5 babies. They were born in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004.

My latest baby was born January 24, 2004. Her name is Zoe.  Isn't she beautiful.  She loves to run a play.  She likes friends like you to some visit her at the zoo.

I was born born at Utah's Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City on August 28, 1999.  When I was 14 months old I came to Dickerson Park Zoo Springfield.  

Jumbe is my first baby.  He is called a calf. Giraffe calves are usually able to stand up within minutes after they are born. 

Did you know most giraffes are shy and gentle.

Giraffes are known to be curious and tolerant animals.  Do you know what that means?  I bet if you asked your parents or your teacher what it means for a giraffe to be curious and tolerant they would tell you.
