Hi, I am Black Mamba and I am a black Jaguar. Jaguars used to live in the United States, but hunters killed all of us. Now we are kept in cages. We are not allowed to roam free any more. We didn’t do anything wrong. People want to be able to see us and since all of the wild ones were killed the only way people can do that is to put us in cages. I don’t like it.

I am a powerful predator. I was made to even eat crocodiles because my jaws and teeth are designed to be so strong. All I get to eat in my cage is mush though and it made my teeth rot. When I had babies everyone wanted to see them, so the zoo put me in the basement so that my babies could be in the cage outside where people could see them. It was like a dungeon in that dark cold cellar. I didn’t get to see the sun for more than a year. I was so sad.

Big Cat Rescue saved me. Now I have a big outside area, a pool, a tree and a hill with a den. My babies were sold and I miss them. I wish they could come live with me. Jaguars were never meant to live in cages. When someone asks you to come see the new baby Jaguars at the zoo, tell them that you don’t want to see big cats who have to live in cages.
