The closest relative to the Patagonian Cavy is the guinea pig..
However the Patagonian Cavy looks more like a rabbit or miniature antelope.
They can weigh between 20 and 35 pounds and be 2 ½ feet in length.
They have brown or gray fur. Their fur is thick and stiff, but it is very
fine in texture. Their bellies and underneath parts is a
lighter color. Sort of like deer and antelope have. Their tail is so
stubby that you almost don't notice that they even have one.
They have long legs and large
ears. Their back legs are a little bigger
than their front legs. It is their long ears that makes you
think of rabbits when you look at a Patagonian cavy. they have big eyes
and a big nose. Their ears are somewhat pointed.
Their hind feet have three toes, each with a large hoof-like claw.Their front feet have 4 toes with sharp claws for digging.
