![]() The hind legs of a cougar are longer than the front legs. This helps them to make such huge leaps. They are well suited to hilly uneven terrain. Their large feet and thick powerful legs help them navigate the rough terrain the often are found in. Cougars have brown eyes with circular pupils. A cougar's claws are retractable lion those of an African lion. Newborn kittens or cubs weigh about one pound, measure about a foot in length and have dark spots and ringed tails. These spots and rings usually disappear between 8 to 12 months of age. The babies are usually weaned at about 2 months of age and begin following ther mother around. From their mothers they learn to hunt and care for themselves. When they are about 18 months to 2 years of age they go off and find their own territories to live and hunt in.
