When hunting a cougar can reach speeds of 40mph in short bursts. It must catch its prey n the first few bounds or give up.
A full grown cougar or mountain lion is tan to reddish brown to gray brown with black on the sides of it's muzzle, the backs of the ears, and the tip of the tail. The Cougar usually has a white or light colored belly. It has a fairly small rounded head with small round ears. The feet of a cougar are quit large.
When hunting the Mountain Lion will hide and sneak in for a surprise attack while stalking its prey. A crouched position is assumed with the tail twitching and the ears upright. An agitated lion may hiss and snarl and lay its ears back.
