Young Bull Baringo giraffe calf, Jumbe, has moved to another zoo.

Young Baringo giraffe bull calf, Jumbe has left Dickerson Park Zoo.  He has been moved to another zoo.  We wish him the very very best.  We know he will be very happy and will be a wonderful bull and someday a wonderful father and leader of a giraffe herd there. When we find out where he went we will post it here.

Meet young bull Baringo Giraffe, Jumbe. In March 2004, Jumbe left Dickerson Park Zoo.  We think he went to a zoo in Kansas.  When we find out for sure where he went we will post it here.  We wish him the very very best in his new home.  We know he is happy there and will be very well cared for.

Jumbe was adopted on 9-6-2003 for Adela, YOU can adopt him too, just call the zoo.

Hi, my name is Jumbe. My name means "chief" in Swahili.  I am a boy. I was born in March 12, 2003.  I am the sixteenth Baringo giraffe born at Dickerson Park Zoo Springfield Missouri.   Stretch is my Dad.  Kamili is my Mom.  I started walking when I was 1 hour and 10 minutes old.

The same year I was born 2 other Baringo giraffes were born at Dickerson Park Zoo, too.  I like to stick my head though the fence and nibble the grass outside the fence.

Did you know that no 2 giraffes have the same markings?  No other giraffe has the same markings I do.  I am the only one with my spots.  No one else has spots just like mine. HAHAHA guess that makes me special, just like you are special. Just the same as no two humans have the same finger prints no 2 giraffes have the same spots.  Cool huh?

Do you know that a giraffes favorite food is Acacia leaves?  MMMM, I love them!!!  Now you can tell your friends something cool !!

Hey, here is some more cool stuff you can tell your friends: Since I am a baby Baringo giraffe I am called a calf.  My momma is called a cow and my daddy is called a bull.  I bet none of your friends know that!!

Did you know that you can ask your mom and dad to adopt me.  REALLY!!

NOTE**
Dickerson Park Zoo participates in the Species Survival Plan for Baringo giraffes through the American Zoo & Aquarium Association, AZA.  We are very proud of our Springfield Zoo, Dickerson Park Zoo.  The animal keepers are very good to the animals, very knowledgeable and extremely caring.  There are only about 100 Baringo giraffes in North American zoos.

!!! I challenge everyone who visits this website to adopt a Baringo giraffe !!!

Feeding all the animals at the zoo and tending to their needs costs a whole lot.  As members of this community who enjoy visiting the zoo, we all need to do our part.  It feels really good to adopt an animal.  I will try to do it every year for the rest of my life.
