Name: webmaster CommentsThis man like so many people buy cute cuddly cubs. Then when that carnivore is no longer a cute cuddly cub, they are stuck with no decent way to get rid of it! Zoos don't usually want them. So the cat must be killed, or like this one abandoned to become a danger for your family. Sanctuaries are full!! The only real solutions is to change the laws and prohibit private individuals and unaccredited road side zoos and unscrupulous breeders from owning, breeding or selling these magnificent wild animals!! Act today! Call & write YOUR law makers TODAY!! Procrastinate and you just may come face to face with an escaped or abandoned 'pet' your self!! Join us is contacting lawmakers to demand better laws protecting animals from the tragedies of exotic pet ownership and prot4ecting us from irresponsible owners.
Name: Diana CommentsI feel that more should be done about the way individuals are allowed to acquire exotic animals. Such as, background checks feasibility for the care and upkeep of the animal before they would be allowed to get one. Unfortunately that is where the black market comes in, as it always has. Just word of mouth it a good place to start and keep it funneling along to places like Turpentine Creek Wildlife Rescue and others like it. That is the TRUE power of the people. I hope that people will donate and contribute to places like these. To help our beautiful animals from becoming endangered.
CommentsWhat a frightful thing to think you could go hiking with your family and come face to face with a tiger that has no fear of humans and who in fact has grown up expecting food from humans. This man must have loved his 'pet', as he was smart enough not to sell her to a cruel canned hunt. He must have thought this a good option. However as well we all surely agree, abandoning her in the woods was plainly and simply, the wrong thing to do. He like so many other people buy a cute cuddly cub, only to be stuck with no way to get rid of it when it is no longer a cute cuddly cub. Is he not a victim too? And sure he meant no harm to others? Should not this story serve to warn other against getting tigers or lions as pets? Contact your law makers and tell them, "NO MORE!" Ask, plead, tell, or demand they act on Bill # HB 211 to prevent scary things like this from happening in the woods behind YOUR house!!
Name: Carole Baskin CommentsIt does amaze me that people will read this and not do a thing about it until it IS their child. Writing your congressmen is such a simple way to change this before anyone else is hurt. The following is a partial listing of incidents involving captive big cats since 1990. These incidents have resulted in the killing or deaths of 210 big cats, 55 human deaths, more than 195 human injuries, and just since 2003 there have been 42 animal escapes and 224 confiscations. http://www.bigcatrescue.org/big_cat_news.htm Thanks for helping to spread the word and making a difference for the animals! Webmaster note: The numbers above were from 2004. Many more incidents have occurred since then.
Name: CommentsI walk a long way to my mail box everyday. Sometimes my kids walk there alone. How stupid of that guy to do that. My kids could not out run a tiger. I am right on that line on the map photo! That man should be charged with child endangerment or thrown into a den of hungry tigers as that is exactly what he did to all of us! How dare he do that! Was it really not against the law? Surely what he did was illegal?
Name: CommentsYears ago we got a mountain lion for a pet. It was a sad mistake. She tore up our house and eventually we became afraid of her not because she was mean. She was not mean but she played so rough she kept really hurting us and our other pets. we loved her so much but could not find a good home for her. We simply had no idea what it would be like as she started growing into an adolescent and an adult. It was a disaster. We did finally find someone to take her after we had her locked in a gage for several months. She had been such a sweet baby but her normal playfulness was destroying our house. After we had to lock her in a cage after a few months she was no longer sweet, but we still loved her. Our veterinarian recommended putting her to sleep because we could not find a home. We seriously debated on finding some woods to turn her loose in just like that man in Arkansas did with his beloved pet tiger. Thankfully we found a wildlife place that wanted her. But if we had not found them, many turned us away, said they had too many already. They could not even tell us who might want her. We did finally fin her a home but we had to drive her clear to California from New York to deliver her. No one would even ship her. So don't be so hard on that man in Arkansas, he could not bare to kill her. Praise him for that. There needs to be more places who will take these exotics as the grow up. Webmaster note: The problem is that there is NO government funding for sanctuaries. They run entirely on public donations and volunteer power. The problem of people buying cute babies and then needing to get rid of them when they become adults is such a large widespread problem that sanctuaries are full. These pet owners dump their pet on anyone who will take them and walk away and never look back. They don't help pay for the animal's upkeep. Many times they run right out and but another baby. The problem is so big that hundreds of sanctuaries or so full they simply can't take one more. Every sanctuary I have visited turn away HUNDREDS of these "pets" EVERY YEAR!!.
Name: Scott CommentsWow, you sure write it well. Your work is awesome. I look forward to working with you to accomplish TCWR's goals. Thanks for all you have done for us. Scott
Name: TAMI ZANE CommentsThe murder of the tiger in Moorpark, Ca. was senseless! It makes me want to scream! How is it that they saw no other alternative.......how is it people can be so dense?!?! THIS IS SICKENING! This is how many animal involved incidents are handled and no one is ever held responsible. I don't have the words to describe the way I feel right now.......things must change in this world but first people need to change their way of thinking. Webmaster Note: Exactly, no one is held responsible. We MUST fight for better laws. Laws that protect the public and protect these animals from irresponsible owners. Don't just get anger, TAKE ACTION!!! TALK to your friends, share your views OFTEN!! Organize letter writing campaigns... Organize calling trees.... MAKE your lawmakers KNOW you want better laws!!!!

Name: KATIE CommentsI LOVE TIGERS SO MUCH DONT KILL THEM Webmaster Note: I AGREE!!!
Name: ashley Commentseven one of our neighbors has 3 huge monkeys in cages right in town! i belive this is cruel to have these animals in cages when belong in zoos!!! It is cruel. These animals live many many years in tiny cages... bored... day after day... year after year....
Name: Tabitha Edwards CommentsI wish they would pass a law for people not to catch these endangered animals. They belong in the wild where they will be happy and they would not have to depend on humans to care for them. I would like to help try to save these animals but I live in Texas. Webmaster Note: YOU CAN HELP!!! No matter where you live!!! Email me and I will give you some ideas on what you can do. lawanna@spfdbus.com
Name: chris Law CommentsI agree in theory but very few people manage to truly think about this subject. I have a hatred for irresponsible "pet" owners, regardless whether they are exotic animals or domestic. You see cats, dogs, and everything else running around in our streets. Webmaster Note: I AGREE!!! We need to address these problems as well. This is very near and dear to my heart. We work to support a group who rehabs and rehomes stray domestic pets. Find places like that in your area and help provide things they need like food, fencing bedding etc....
Name: carol davies Commentsplease do not blame the tiger he did not know any difference, humans are to blame, if we only knew how lucky we where to live along these tigers, and let them live on there own as god meant them to do. humans do things and do not understand what they are doing, yours carol davies Webmaster Note: The animal is NOT to blame the irresponsible owner carries the full fault of this!! We need better laws to prevent this and to punish severely irresponsible owners. Laws that have enforceable consequences and enough agents to actually enforce the laws.
Name: Chris Law Commentshello, I agree completely. One of the most common things that I see is people nagging and moaning because of these "exotic" animals being in captivity instead of the wild where they "belong". I can understand that many of these animals are much better suited in the wild. Unfortunatley, humans dont make it that easy. Due to our actions, spilling oil, destroying habitat, killing the animals for ignorant reasons, etc. these animals are finding it less and less possible to find a comfortable atmosphere where they can be left alone. It is soooo easy for the average Joe to come out and say that these animals are best left in the wild until they actually get out there and get their hands dirty. After you have spent a week or so, trying to save these animals from what humans have done, I am not a supporter of wild-caught specimens as "pets" due to the fact that they are being taken from their home-land to be put into a cage. Unfortunately this also is one of the MANY causes of the dwindling numbers of many animals. They are morons who want to act cool because they have a predator as a pet. They think they are going to drape a Burmese python around their neck and hit up the clubs, or they are going to walk their alligator or Tiger on a leash down the side-walk. I guess pit-bulls aren't the symbol of a "bad-ass" anymore. Not to sound crude or repulsive or anything of the sort, but if you really want to protect these animals and give them a GOOD long life in the wild, you stand a much better chance of trying to talk humans into killing themselves. The less humans you have on this earth the less damage that can be done. In the mean-time, there are humans causing the problems, and then there are humans trying to fix the problems. Feel free to drop me a line. Best Wishes to all (including exotics and humans), Chris Webmaster Note: Getting involved in a Habitat Preservation drive can be done no matter where you live. There are many ways you can do this. Email me and I will help you find organizations that are doing just that. Tell me the animal you are interested in helping preserve wilderness habitat for and I will find organizations for you that can direct you and help you find a way you can get involved no matter where you live.
Name: CommentsI am lividly angry that the old actor who used to play Tarzan had a pet tiger that got loose in the city. The poor scared thing ended up being shot to death. The right away the idiot was granted two more permits for a mere $40 and he went right out and replaced his now dead pet tiger with two new cute cuddly cubs. He faced no broken laws, no penalties... while his former pet is dead and everyone in the city was in danger due to his escaped adult tiger. Now the idiot proudly displays his two new tiger cubs. How in the hell can this be right? Webmaster Note: it is very disgusting that the old actor who was not responsible enough to properly house and care for his former tigers could so easily get more cubs and then brashly brag about the loop hole in the law. It is truly an out rage!!
Name: Tanner CommentsHey I Know Your Trying To Help And Everything But Dude This Is RAre I Seen On T.v And Newspaper Not Rare Like IN O I Found A Diamond But It Dosent Happen Often Enough For You Making People Pee There Pants About It I Stumbled Onto This Site With My Bro And We Read The Stuff NOw He Wont Play Outside Not Even AT School An Added Note: How often is too often? How many would need to become a snack for a hungry carnivore for it to be too many? No tigers and African lions are not released very often although it DOES happen. Servals, Bobcats, Lynx, Cougars, black bears are COMMONLY purchased as babies. When they come adults and the owner cannot dump them on their local zoo and cannot sell them because no one wants to buy an adult carnivore what happens? Those species are VERY COMMONLY released into whatever woods are nearby. These species bring down very large prey in the wild. Except now you have an animal alone in the woods that has never been in the woods. They do not know how to hunt prey.. thus they begin looking for humans to feed them. Humans have always fed them it is the only way they know to get food. Thus you have HUNGRY CONFUSED former pets looking for humans. IT IS COMMON! I am sorry for the fear this may cause, but it is REAL, IT DOES HAPPEN. Do some research and TEACH your younger sibling HOW to be safe in the woods. TEACH him not to wander off alone. Learn to be aware of neighbors who might have pets like these. If you want this fear entirely removed, then urge your legislators to change the laws that now allow things like this to happen.
Name: Brian Battell CommentsI wish this gentleman's message was still here. He actually have some good view points. We ended up having a great conversation via email. I can't post his email comments here without his permission.
