Here is a set of photos of Asian
elephant cows at the The Tulsa Zoo in Tulsa Oklahoma. The female Asian
elephants' names are Gunda and Sooky. I had the pleasure of meeting the
elephant keepers in Tulsa. They truly truly love the elephants they care
for. They are totally devoted to their care and happiness. The
elephant cows certainly seem just as attached to their keepers. They greet
them when they arrive and when the keepers walk along the outside of the
fence the cows literally rush toward them and follow along trying their best
to gain their keepers' attentions. It shows that they really like
interacting with their keepers. Elephants are a very intelligent and
social herd animal. The 'exercises' the keepers ask these
elephants to do allow them to do assess the daily health of the animal as
well as gives the animal exercise physically and mentally. The
elephants can choose to participate or they can choose not to and walk away.
The day I had the privilege of watching them the elephants seemed to want
more. When the keepers were done they had looked at each foot and in the
elephants mouths really well. However, when the keepers were done the
elephants seemed to be begging for more attention. However the keepers
do not do this to put on a show they do this to be able to check each part
of the animal.
