A pumpkin patch,
late in the Fall,
Is filled with pumpkins, large and small.
Then as October rolls around,
A rumbling's heard across the ground.
Pee Wee Pumpkin was a little guy,
In fact he stood five inches high.
He heard his friends all fuss and pout
And asked them what it was about.
They said,"This time of year's the worst.
For we are jack-o-lantern cursed."
Folks use us then to light the scene
For the scary night of Halloween.
"They come out here from far away
And take us back with them to stay.
Then with a knife they carve us up,
Put our seeds in a bowl or cup.
They make us jack-o-lanterns then,
A candle burning specimen.
So we must watch and shake with fright.
As the ghosts and goblins howl that night.
"We all look different, some wear smiles,
With others carved in different styles.
Some have huge frowns upon their chins
And some are sporting big wide grins.
"No matter how they carve a face
It's peers out on a scary place.
And once the monsters have their night,
We jack-o-lanterns shrink with fright."
So Pee Wee, with a little slide,
Popped neath a leaf where he could hide.
As the others all were whisked away
This little guy found he could stay.
For his friends, sweet Pee Wee grieved,
But he was also quite relieved.
Then Halloween just passed on by.
He gave a joyous pumpkin cry.
He thought, "Oh joy! This sure is living,
Like a turkey that has missed Thanksgiving.
He lazed around from morn to night,
Pee Wee Pumpkin was living right!
One November morn, as he awoke,
He felt a push and then a poke.
A human voice said, "Come here, dear,
I've found the cutest pumpkin here."
"I'm glad that he's the one we've chosen,
Let's take him in before he's frozen."
On Thanksgiving day please heave a sigh,
For Pee Wee—he's your pumpkin pie.
Smart Turkey
Week before Thanksgiving,
I limp around real strange.
Huddle in the corner,
As though I have the mange.
All the other turkeys,
Just gobble, gobble on.
I'm silent, and I act
As if my gobbler's gone.
Everyone is thankful
On Thanksgiving Day.
Friday it's forgotten.
You all go on your way.
I know what thankful is
So listen when I say.
"It's great to be a turkey, After Thanksgiving Day."
It's That Time Again
The days are getting shorter now.
I feel a snow flake on my brow.
The leaves are crackling as I run,
The squirrels' searching almost done.
The turkey's restless in the pen,
Oh! No! I see my breath again!
It makes a person take a pause
And think about old Santa Claus!!!
Turkey Squawk
The little red hen marched into
town
Dressed in a pretty gingham gown.
Her brand new hat was on her head,
The hat was green, her feathers red.
She pranced right up to the village square
And the people saw her standing there.
She flapped her wings 'neath the big town clock.
Then gave her finest, "Bock, bock, bock!"
"Now folks, please listen when I say,
Those eggs of mine are hard to lay.
Did you ever try to make a yoke?
Has a shell been formed by human folk?
"You need my eggs for cakes and strudels
Why, without them there will be no noodles.
I am not alone, just tell me how
You guys could live without a cow.
"The sheep grows wool out on the farm
Then gives it up to make you warm.
Without the pig you'd all be waken'
To eat my eggs without the bacon.
"So now Thanksgiving's drawing near.
And I see the turkeys shake with fear.
But so your meal is extra nice,
They'll make their final sacrifice.
"Please, on Thanksgiving say a word
In praise of this most tasty bird.
Be thankful for your human deal:
That part of you won't be a meal!
"Now you've heard my pleading squawk
And I will start my funky walk,
Back to the hen house with my cousins
And pump your eggs out by the dozens."
I write to laud this little red chick
Who speaks so well and dresses so slick.
It's not for her she squawks and howls,
But in tribute to her fellow fowls.
I hope we'll all recall her words
And praise the hens and turkey birds.
Especially when we say the blessing
And place the white meat by our dressing.
Turkey day
Turkey, turkey in the pen,
It's Thanksgiving time again.
Still you strut around with pride
When you should take off and hide.
Nice big bird we have a date.
I will see you on my plate.
On that day we'll give you praise,
Talk about your better days,
When you scared us with a gobble.
Giggling at your silly wobble.
Then we pass around white meat,
Thank you for your special treat.
Then a piece of pumpkin pie,
With the whipped cream extra high.
I dream of this throughout the year
Now Thanksgiving's almost here.
Turkey, turkey, I must say,
"You're the one who makes that day!"
Tommy, The Turkey Star
Tommy the Turkey had pumpkin pie
And oh, he loved it so.
He danced and he wobbled
Then chuckled and gobbled
And ordered a piece to go—oh!!
Tommy the Turkey had dressing, too
And gravy on the side.
The potatoes were whipped,
Sweet iced tea he sipped,
When finished Tommy sighed:
"This Thanksgiving dinner was pretty good
But it was not complete.
All veggies won't do it,
Let's face it, we blew it,
It needed a little white meat—so...
"It's time that we make the sacrifice
That gives us turkeys fame,
So cook us up nice
With sweet tasty spice.
We star in the Thanksgiving game."
Little Turkey in the Straw
Oh, there was a little turkey
Who strutted through the straw.
He lived in the barn
With his maw and paw.
But every November,
He thought it was a pity,
They sent him to visit
His cousins in the city.
"Gobble, gobble, gobble,"
He cried all day.
He did not want to go away.
His folks said, "Go!
Before time's wasted
Or you'll spend Thanks-
Giving day being basted!"
And so the little turkey
Went off to see the town.
A little bit unhappy
With his tail feathers down.
His cousins took him
Trotting to their Pizza Hut--
And now that little turkey
Is a pizza nut.
Gobble, Gobble, Gobble
He eats, then sighs,
And orders up more pizza pies.
He tells his cousins,
"Hey! This is living.
It's the way all turkeys
should spend Thanksgiving."
